Bonisode - GenCon '11

Limited Release was at GenCon in Indiana a couple of weekends ago. Monty met up with a couple of filmmakers, Chris and Anne Lukeman of Kill Vampire Lincoln Productions. They had a couple copies of their latest short film they were there to promote, Once Upon a Time in 1972, which had THE most stylishly cool packaging! (check it out on the right)

They must have fallen for Monty's ruggedly-handsome looks and Robert Goulet-like voice, because they followed him all the way to Wizard World in Chicago last weekend. Almost the entire weekend went by before we got a chance to sit down and chat officially, but even at the tail end of the con they were still full of energy and willing to spare a few minutes for LR.

Episode, the Seventeenth

Let's talk about relevancy, baby!

Our audio engineer, Soch, hath returned from his much-needed vacation and therefore Candice and Monty have returned to the web-air.

Monty has been off traveling to several conventions. getting opportunities to meet some beautiful webseries folk, like David Nett (Gold the Series, Night of the Zombie King) and Mike Fly & Simon Fraser (Sexy Nerd Girl), not to mention Valerie Lapomme herself.

While Candice has joined up with a girl gamers guild, including former LR guest Lovina Yavari. What a suh-weet job!

One series that has been on our radar since the very beginning (way back, like a whole 2/3 of a year ago almost!) has finally made it into one of our episodes, Vampire Mob. Just fresh into its 2nd season, the mockumentary-style vampire crime drama has been very determined in delivering itself to the world.

About this time, it's important to note that a debate has been sparked in this episode which has not been settled (like anything does between the two of us) but is bound to resurface for many episodes to come. For extra reading material on the subject (i.e. ETEWAF), I refer our listeners to the following article by Patton Oswalt over on Wired Magazine.

The debate in question was brought on by our review of the fantasy-comedy JourneyQuest by Dead Gentlemen Productions. They were kind enough to give us a DVD copy of the entire 1st season when we ran into them at GenCon in Indiana!

Episode, the Sixteenth

Remember us? We used to do a show where we watched and reviewed web series... now we do a show where we chat chit for 20 minutes and spend 8 minutes reviewing web series.

Nick tries valiantly to carry the episode while Candice is struggling with a sharp jabbing pain over the left eye and the need to spew.

We start off by covering Polaris 25 which happened recently in Toronto (July 16th - 18th) and spend a fair amount of time talking about the folks at Sexy Nerd Girl and their multimedia, or transmedia, story development. Hopefully it won't be long till we can cover this show officially.

Also represented at Polaris was upcoming web series Pretty in Geek, previously covered by us Tights and Fights and one of the shows we review in this episode, Standard Action.

Nick makes a brief mention of his moment of stardom on stage during the Constellation Awards.


Eventually we make it to the reason we have gathered. Standard Action and Blood and Bone China. The little amount we spend discussing the shows in no way represents how much we enjoyed them.

Episode the Fifteenth

Welcome to Episode the Fifteenth where we spend more time talking about shows we didn't watch and review than we do talking about the two we watched, Six Figures Tv and Girl Number 9.

After a frustrating attempt at finding a series to watch Nick lays down the law and throws a challenge to web series creators everywhere in this episode. And wow, did he have a lot to say!

Our recording was delayed by a week since one of the three members of this team was constantly away from the rest for about a week and a half. This didn't make us any more prepared to record however since the task of choosing a show to review seemed to be the most difficult thing Nick did all week, and Candice watched the show she chose three weeks before and couldn't even remember what it was!

So, help us out, how do you decide which web series you want to watch? And how can you help Nick in his search for the next great show about zombie cheerleaders (or whatever obscure genre he chooses for next episode)?

Eventually we come around to the shows we watched and find Six Figures TV to be a refreshing take on six friends in LA trying to make it in the entertainment industry.

Girl Number 9 however proved difficult to like since we couldn't watch it! Their website makes all their videos private. Anybody find a way to watch this program, cause it does sound like a good one. Candice luvs star Gareth-David Lloyd and Nick has a sick fascination with serial killers so we really want to give this show a good look.

Episode, The Fourteenth

So a week ago we recorded a new episode. Then Nick did his part and converted it and uploaded it to our Libsyn account. And then he left town for work and I shirked my responsibility.

Here's the deal, we watched a couple shows, we didn't love them, we talked about them, listen to us here or right click and save to your computer.

We checked out Throwing Stones and Gasland and weren't very impressed with either. Which is too bad cause they both have a lot of potential.

We also talk about the lack of good or even any horror webseries. There seems to be myriad comedy shows (whether actually funny or not) and a fair amount of dramas, but we've come across very few horror series.

And behold, our compatriots over at Those Video Guys see the same trend and offered their opinion on the topic on their live episode today.

Let's pretend I purposely didn't post our new episode till today so that I could include their episode as well ;-)

Episode, the Thirteenth

Welcome, you dozens of tens!

Things got a little strange here, which is fitting for our lucky 13th episode. Candice talks about her eventual death and retirement from podcasting, Monty strongly advises her to get laid (those who know us knows what's bizarre with that scenario) and an incredibly new and unique term is coined. It's around the 12 minute mark, listen for it and spread it around.

It's a Padgett smörgåsbord! We show no mercy as we turn eyes onto both Life From the Inside, self-coronated "best TV show on the Internet" and Vampire Zombie Werewolf, both children of Padgett's brain. And both titles seem to escape Candice completely.

Life From the Inside follows a retired, agoraphobic, English-language, obscure, foreign holiday, novelty songwriter (the best in the business) who finds himself suddenly broke and hopelessly falling for his building's superintendent. Not surprisingly, there are many comical and unexpected scenarios that can be produced with this setup.

Vampire Zombie Werewolf is...well, about a couple of Vampire-Zombie-Werewolves. Trying desperately to fit in with society and the neighbourhood's bloodsucking clique, the married couple also meet with a very anxious webseries producer to pick his brain apart...sometimes almost literally.

Meanwhile, Monty announces advertisements that will be posted on Kijiji offering up friendship, fandom and lovin'. Let the bidding war begin!

Episode, The Twelth

Welcome to the debauchery! We start off with a bang... poor Bert.

And poor Jason... he had to follow our introduction!

We try something new tonight and have a phone interview with Out With Dad's Jason Leaver. We love his show and reviewed it in Episode the Sixth. He's here to talk about the plans for Season 2 which has been in production for about a month, and will launch on July 7th. We also discuss their release schedule for Season 2, which was cleverly announced with this video.



We wrap up our experimental episode with a bit of news from the web series world. Blip TV has just launched their new site, and we've already found new series to review in the future. Pretty The Series is actively campaigning for a season 3. And Nick is now actively campaigning along with the creators of Microwave Porn for a XXX-rated version of their series.

Episode the Eleventh

We were starting to think this episode would never happen! Due to extreme real life deadlines we were forced to record a week later than our regular release date. And due to extreme real life deadlines finally being met and passed we were forced to do nothing for the last two days, really nothing.

Those of you who subscribe to our podcast on iTunes will know that we released our newest episode on Wednesday, but we (being Candice) are just getting around to this post today!

So, welcome back everyone.

Our return episode, after 4 weeks since last sitting in front of the microphones, is reminiscent of our pilot episode. What is it that we do here again?

In this one we talk about two gaming shows, The Online Gamer and The Game Rev. Similar topics, but you can't find two more different shows.

The Online Gamer, created by Reckless Tortuga, is about an angry FPS game player who essentially takes his gamer tag and acts as that person offline as well as online. Not the type of person you want to meet in real life!

The Game Rev is about a bunch of stereotypical gamer nerds working for an online gaming magazine dealing with changes in management when a new editor in chief joins their team.

As per usual, Nick and Candice disagree on which show is better. At least some things haven't changed.

Episode, the Tenth

We made it! 10 episodes! Can you believe it? And not a drop of blood has been shed between us yet.

Without consultation Nick announces the Great Beard Contest of 2011. You, yes You, can have Nick's beard. What are you willing to do to get it? Make some offers and if we think yours is best Nick will shave beard exposing his cheeks to the world, while giving you the remains of his facial hair. Let's see if his power is in his beard.

In the meantime we share some feedback and try our best to stay serious for a moment. It doesn't last long.

The first series we watched this time around is Microwave Porn put out by the awesomely named production company, Cancel Proof. This series was suggested to us by Out With Dad creator and writer Jason Leaver, in response to Nick's cry for more shows with excellent theme songs. And this one delivered more than just a theme song.

Not only that, it reminded us of YouTube videos and porn related internet memes of yore!



We then move on to 00:24 The Series, a spoof of 24 the television series. Does the web need this type of series? Who knows, but we watch it anyway!

Someone is paying attention!

A tweet this morning from Roger Ebert brought to my attention the controversy about Chrysler's recent ad for the Town & Country and it's uncanny familiarity. It seems they may have seen The Louise Log and thought creator Anne Flournoy was on to something.

Watch the ad below and then watch the great rebuttal from the folks at The Louise Log.





I don't know about you guys, but I think there is something fishy going on with that Chrysler commercial! But I also think Anne Flournoy has been very classy, and funny with her rebuttal. If the big boys are taking notice of the creative minds online and trying to duplicate what they are doing, well it's frustrating, but also a sign that they are doing something right.
